This book alone proves why Camus is the greatest of the the french existentialists. His control of language is masterful and his examination of suicide is not only subtly nuanced, but in the end, powerfully provides for a framework in which life can be meaningful. Unlike Sartre and DeBeauvoir, Camus is always highly pragmatic, his work has its place in the hands of average people, not merely...more

5 Stars, 3 thumbs up, and must collectable books. It complecity behind the simply tought of a man which called the retro philosofic and Prophet of Atom Ages. His humble and Rebelation spirits make the Nobel Prizes was nothing than a prove of hypocracy. Albert Camus finds the perfect metaphor for the existential vision of life in THE MYTH OF SISYPHUS. But his conclusion that in the face of such a difficult and ultimately futile task as pushing a large rock up a hill forever, the existential reader must laugh, is contradictory. But I did laugh when Homer found himself naked and chained to a giant rock he must push up a hill forever in THE...more

Certain sections are more accessible (and therefore more valuable to me) than others. But I'd have to say that this is one of the most heroic and, for lack of a better term, "Zen" philosophies I have ever encountered. Artists and political activists, I feel, in particular will learn the most from this thoughtful and liberating piece.

Suicide solution? Think again even in a godless universe(according to Camus). after anguish of "no god" person must continue to strive for what is right.Camus obviously didn't understand chemical depression. Sometimes it just isn't a choice, but a necessity to rid head pain(vice grips, pleasure depletion[dophine, ceratonin, etc].

Why would a Titan push an immense boulder to the heights of a wicked, earthen half-pipe only to see his great weight roll back upon him, returning cruelly to square one? Why would a man get out of bed only to get back in later that same day? Why live when one is meant only to die? Listen to the wisdom of Camus and find out for yourself the beauty of spiritual Rebellion.

Camus' essay on the absurd state is a well-developed, deeply interesting foray into art, literature, philosophy, and well, life. His examination is an interested and impassioned presentation of man's response to the lucid realization of his previously irrational state - one surely worth numerous reads.
