more This novel is quite different because of the main character Prentis and his need for power. Though the actions of Prentis throughout the novel can turn the reader against him, the situations in which he is placed and the reasons for why he acts the way he does tend to make the reader sympathize with him. While the reader may feel discontent with Prentis and his actions in the beginning of the book, the plot twists and changes within each page will change the reader's mind by the end of the novel, and the sympathy for Prentis will emerge with each situation in which he is faced with treacherous people and confronted with unseeming situations. The mystery of the novel--however insignificant it may appear--lends to the page-turning quality of the novel. I recommend this book to anyone who has ever felt displaced in society or powerless in a powerful world.
