Early JT, dark and twisted but still finding his voice. Much like Bukowski, it's autobiograpic fiction. Not as wild as some of his later work, but a must for JT fans and/or more mainstream readers. If you like this you are ready for the deep end of Jim Thompson.

Why on earth this was shelved in the Horror category of the library is quite beyond me. It reads like something we might have used for a literature text in secondary school. Didn't serve its purpose (for me) as entertainment.

Very different from the other Thompson books I read...this one is autobiographical and does not have all of the suspense and intrigue like his others.
