I had to study this book in literature class, I just didn't get it. Mabye you might. I wasn't very fond of Byatt's writing style, while many have praised her for it, i found it unneciserrily wordy. Some stories were interesting (July Ghost and Air) while most were droll. The entire text is a fictionalised auto-biography of Byatt's life, I personally found it creative but quite self-serving and pretentious. Sugar is a meta-fiction, what I found was A.S Byatt is a book snob who believes that she knows everything about the literary form. I think her sentiment is wasted on me.   hide
