plongeon dans L.A. City, je dérive peu à peu dans l'horreur ; psychologiquement dérangeant.

the vampire chapter was entertaining. other than that i'd say this is his weakest writing.

My favorite Ellis novel. To call the prose style "bare" would be to put things far too lightly: Ellis writes so simply in this book that he makes a typical Hemingway work look positively over-the-top. However, this is precisely the point, as Ellis' unobtrusive authorial stance allows all of the moral decay and shallowness of his characters to bleed through the page and stain your...more

If this was the only Ellis book I had ever read, I might give it more than three stars. In its own right it's not bad at all; I just don't think it compares to his better work. If you were a fan of Less than Zero this will give you another set of portraits, told in a somewhat similar style, although Ellis does focus in more detail on a larger set of characters. Be warned though, these people...more

Sublime- love Bryan Metro. Heard an interview with BEE when he said the vampires are a metaphor, not so sure about that, they seem pretty real to me. Obviously a vampire could be used in a metaphorical way so easily- why bother though, its far more interesting to have a real vampire. Love the alien in the final chapter- is that a metaphor too? Ooooh I wouldnt like to think so....laugh out loud...more

A mesmerising and shocking collecting of short stories, The Informers is wonderful - I wish he'd release another collection. Discovering Japan is the highlight, a truly horrific slice of short fiction which manages to enthrall and disgust in equal measure. This is a great introduction to BEE's work, and his style, like Carver's, is perfectly suited to the short story. These little...more

I'm total fan of Bret Easton Ellis who is a demi-god. However, this book left me cold – the characters shuffle around doing nothing, the writing is flat and the plot is dead. It's like Ellis' agent spring cleaned his desk drawer, found a collection of rough character sketches, pasted them together and sold the mishmash as a book! American Psycho, Glamorama and Rules of Attraction are...more

While not as polished as some of Ellis' other works, it still features all of Ellis' trademarked themes: apathetic characters faced with morality, narrators who lack credibility, biting yet subtle satire, and characters who are all inter-connected. And of course, Ellis is the only author readers can trust to use all of said themes with flair and grace. While he does pull them off, he doesn't...more
