Not the most original or interesting Dick I have read, but it has some fascinating sequences and it's an easy read. I'd recommend this for the completist only.

a really good book but falls down towards the end as lousi rosen goes crazy and gets deeply morbid. The Abe Lincoln and the Stanton are great inventions though

I think every other review I have read of this book has been completely and totally off! This book, imo, is the best phillip K dick book. I loved each and every character, I loved all of the ideas, and more than any of Dick's other books, this one has a real story to tell. It mixes in all of the usual elements (ie; insanity, robots, etc etc.) into the perfect order for a perfect novel....more

As usual with Dick's books he creeps in and messes with your head but I found it ended in a bit of an 'anti-climax'. Not my favourite Dick novel but worth a read just to go on one of his 'hedfuk' journeys! I love the fact that you can gage when this book was written in the way he describes how the robots are built and their minds are fed data!

Another great PKD book. Don't listen to people that complain about the plot dropping out 3/4 of the way through, they just didn't realize what the main plot was.

This is a bit of an uneven novel. The existential themes are very compelling, but I'm left wanting more. You've got a great story about androids grappling with their own sentience, then Dick suddenly cuts short that exploration, and the plot degrades into his old standby of hallucinations and psychiatric treatment. It's almost like Dick had to take a dump, but the bathroom door was...more

A mediocre Philip K. Dick outing, but it is still a good read. Dick's insights on mental illness are fascinating, and he addresses the question "What is human?" with the simulacra, a question which he explores much more successfully in "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

Read most of PKD, none for many years though. This one seems to stick in my mind a lot. Seems to have a bit from almost all his other books in it. (no doubt it is very chaotic and disjoint, but that could be its charm)

For all of his eccentricities I usually have no problem following Dick's writing. But I feel like I totally missed the boat here.

It's interesting enough, great themes and really good character development. You get to know the main character really well by the end of the book. I found it to be a bit anti-climactic by the last bit though.
