Nobody's Fool (Vintage Contemporaries)

The type of story you don't really want to end. And, since it is just really about ordinary life, in a way, it never does.

Russo writes with an honesty and accuracy that I love. You feel like you know the people he writes about and that they are just a town or two over, living out their lives. This isn't a mystery, nothing much "happens". It's just a story about relationships and life. But that doesn't mean it's not compelling - it really is. Just don't expect a Grisham.

This book just gave me one more reason to love Richard Russo. He writes with such feeling about blue-collar folks and his stories and characters are complex.

I've wanting to read more of Russo's works ever since I read Empire Falls. Nobody's fool is written with the same witty and understated humor that I love in a book. At first glance there is no clear plot, which is the beauty of all his works! At first glance there is no clear plot, which is the beauty of all his works! But as the characters develop and I begin to see what makes them who they are, I almost forget where I am and in my mind am floating over this small forgotten town that we all have driven by at some point in life. A great one, and a good intro to Russo if you're reading him for the first time.

Was reading it on the train, laughing out loud. Everyone around me asked me what I was reading. A page turner. Great character development

Along with "Dunces" is an all-time fave for entertaining, laugh out loud reading. Great characters.

One of my favorite books of all time.

Each character will have a little something that reminds you of you -- and a little something that reminds you of someone else. You'll be frustrated for them and mad at the similarities to yourself.
