Desire Under the Elms is the weakest of the bunch, but still very good. Strange Interlude is literally like watching someone for their entire adult life. A little creepy, but still well done. Mourning becomes Electra takes everything that makes the old Greek dramas epic and transplants it into the American south. Overall, a very good collection of plays.

I really, really don't like this period in O'Neill's writing. 'Strange Interlude' in particular really annoyed me as I read -- the Freud is laid on with a particularly heavy trowel. I get how 'Desire under the Elms' could be terrific onstage, though.

Vinny is an implausible character and trust me the plot does seem...more
