Very dense book which requires time and effort to get into. It is however well worth it. It has lovable characters, humour, and enorme sadness. Very well written! It gave WW2 a new sad face which history books or other stories haven't been able to before. Its love story is beautiful and heart breaking at the same time. Good book, bad, bad, movie.

Forget the movie - this is a great, great novel...when you are done then read Birds without Wings by this author.

I love De Bernieres and this was no exception. Wonderful characters that I loved for their perfections and follies, excellent historical perspectives, great landscape descriptions. Just terrific writing.

This is one of my very favorite books. It made me laugh and cry. You will fall in love with Captain Corelli, the reluctant soldier, who has the heart of a musician.

Try to get through the first chapter and then keep reading. It's fantastic. took a while to get into. Well worth sticking to it.

this was quite a grabber and a very fun read up until the end. The last chapter kind of pulled everything together too quickly and so much time had passed - felt like the author was in a hurry to end the book.
