Really interesting read. I am definately an enlightened romantic with a bit of modern constructivism thrown in(no matter how balmy that seems).

probably the most erudite, elegantly written science book i ever read...very deep insights for any renaissence man or woman out there... One of the best books ever: elegant, all-encompassing perspective of life on this planet (technology, culture, economics, philosophy, art etc...)

A little bit like a cough drop with nuclear fumes, your eyes burn and you can't tell if they're hot or cold. I can't tell if I like this book or not, which means I don't, because it didn't really say much. so far so good Pretentious wanna-be with cool factoids

Prose engaging and unexpected from an eminent scientist. An unabashed empiricist, he argues for science as the essential underpinning of all human knowledge and culture. I didn't agree with everything in this book, but found his arguments insightful and well-defended. First and last chapters are the best; the remainder is a rehash of earlier works.

Here's another barnburner by the venerable Mr. Wilson. He prescribes a coalescence of science, the arts and humanities through determined collaboration and the relentless application of the scientific method to gain robust understanding of all the cares of humankind. Just another wonderful work by Mr. Wilson and worth every minute that any caring and thoughtful person would devote to it.

It's rare that someone who's as smart and influential as this man, can write for the layman in such an eloquent manner. It wasn't as good as Human Nature, but still a very important work,...more

Let's be clear about what is and what is not science... Maybe in 200 years. Sigh...

More like "consillyence." Self-indulgence from a don sequestered in the ivory tower long enough to have forgotten how science and research actually works. One or two chapters seemed to serve only the purpose of reminding the reader just how much smarter than the average bear E. O. Wilson is.
