I loved this book. A story of a man coming to grips with his own apathy and taking control to live a life of passion rather than being controlled by it. There are so many threads in this book, and not all of them are tied together in the nice bow one might like. What more would one expect from a writer so heavily influenced by Kafka?

Read it. Just go with it. It won't all make sense, but it's worth it.

I am only part way through this book right now and I cannot put it down, the way Murakami writes - the storytelling and imagery keep me quite intrigued, and I so rarely read fiction - this one is a treat. I first read his biography about writing and marathon running - non-fiction - and enjoyed it so much decided to read my first novel of his. I think this was a great choice.
