Dibdin can write. Read his mysteries, his postmodern jab at umberto eco, read his robert browning epistolary takeoff and now his Cosi. This one is part mozart opera libretto, part mystery, part guys and dolls thug plot, part pink panther movie script and part italian travel guide--but it works. Maybe too frothy for the noir purists, but take a break.

Strange ending, it turns into a bedroom farce in the final chapter. But that apart, this is as atmospheric, evocative, beautifully written and plotted as the rest of the Aurelio Zen series.
