If you enjoyed "Requiem for a Dream" you'll like this one. Besides all the drugs & sex it's got that same sort of unsettling/f*cked--vibe, west coast LA-80's style.

I never saw the movie back in the 80s, so I went into this read with no outside influences. I am happy that I did. This was an amazing tale. It shows what happens when parents are absent and spoiled kids run amok. I loved the references to some f the bands in the book because I use to listen to them in the 80s when I was a punker. You should also read Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho. ...more

I found the book to be outdated. At first it seems that Ellis is trying to shock the reader, and then the characters slip down into some gruesome territory. He captures their lack of soul very well, but that is what bothers me about his writing. On one hand, he is trying to show us this empty materialistic world, and on the other hand, there is no redeeming factor, and no sense of purpose in...more

People Are Afraid To Merge In L.A. Less Than Zero has a character that at least everyone can identify with, in my case its Blair. i'd explain who Blair is but you have to read it.. Less Than Zero was Bret Easton Ellis' first published novel. I personally think its not his best work (that would be The Rules Of Attraction, in which the main character of Zero has a slight cameo) but its still...more

Depressing, but the movies, music, and cultural references were like a flashback to the 80's

Ellis doesn't work for everybody (at this point I'd guess that the group that he does work for is diminishing rapidly) but he's still a favorite of mine. This book remains a classic to me.

I find that there are very few books that I can point out to line that makes me want to put it down and re-read everything up to that point before finishing. Even as a teenager, Ellis had the power to convince me that someone could actually need three lines of coke just to get through a lunch with his father. Excellent book. Written in a voice that fits the lifestyle of the overly rich and...more

It isn't as gory as American Psycho, but it's just as disturbing. There's certainly no glorification of the drugs and empty, scene obsessed lifestyle led by these college-aged kids in L.A. People who watch waste-of-time programming like The Hills would be much better off reading Easton Ellis's ode to the "posh" young L.A. life.
