It was a tough read at first - the print in my version is tiny, and Heller's prose is wacky. But a deployment to the middle-of-no-where Australia helped me get through this one. I really enjoyed the black humor, and eventually the writing style became second nature. This is undoubtedly a "great American Novel". The movie is great too...
Hey, do you dream of writing The Great American Novel? Well, don't worry about it. Joe Heller already did. This is it. The greatest American novel, in my opinion. Damn near perfect.
Funny, witty, esoteric, and abstract book that embodies Modernism to the fullest. A very long read, but a very worthwhile and hilarious (yet bitterly subversive) text.
