Not as good as dragonsong, but still engaging. Anne McCaffrey weaves Menolly's ascent to Harper-dom really well. I wonder who will she end up with...if only i can find the last book of the trilogy...

Follow-up to DragonSong, strong young girl protagonist surrounded by lots of other great characters who are also featured in many of McCaffrey's other Pern novels.

I read this trilogy when I was in grade school and still haul it out every once in a while to have a read. Menolly is a strong female character who defies convention to be free of (let's face it) misogyny and parochialism to live on her own terms and, eventually pursue her passion for music. Plus me likey dragons.   :)
