I adore this book -- it's just so much fun to read. Even though my inner cynic is constantly protesting how idealistic the characters and plot are (everyone is either perfect and good-hearted, or pure evil), I just can't resist enjoying every moment. Also, George Cooper is a million kinds of LOVE.

I still love and read this book from time to time even though it's considered a kids' book. Such a fun book, and at the time it came out, there wasn't too many female protagonists quite like Alanna.

I wish I owned this book. So much of my present personality and actions have been affected by it because I read it when I was in the third/fourth grade. Since then, I have read it several times, approximately thrice a year. I think ever little girl should read the first quartet atleast once.

the beginning of an amazing adventure. 'Alanna' sweeps you up into an amazingly realistic world that when your reading the books you just fall into and get swept along by the story. this story of a determined and headstrong girl fighting to win through to her goal gives all of us hope to become something more then we are.

I love Pierce's novels, and I have never met a girl who doesn't enjoy them. It is definitely a very feminine series, but in a powerful way. Overcoming gender stereotypes and gaining strength are major themes in the book, and there is really no better message to be said. I'm so happy to have this book autographed.
