Beautiful, satisfying ending to the quartet. I did start to feel more and more frustrated with the fact that it's a book written for teenagers as the series progressed, though -- as the plot became heavier, the inadequacy of the euphemisms, particularly for death, became painfully obvious. And lot of the romance was ridiculously contrived in this book, but how can I resist such a neat and pat...more

Alanna is at her finest in the final book of the Song of the Lioness. In what I think is the best book of the entire series, Alanna helps Jon restore peace to Tortall, her home. The ending is as satisfying as the rest of the book, and, after reading every other series written by Pierce, I have to say that in the Lioness series is her finest. When my daughter Claire was 10 we took part in a roundtable discussion w/Tamora & had dinner with her to boot. It was great! My daughter owns all of them and has read them numerous times each. I love them because of the strong female role models, although I've only read a few myself

The Lioness is called upon to be the king's champion. She has to rescue the king no matter what and that means killing the king's cousin and possibly destroying the land.

the best!! Allanna goes on an adventure of a lifetime to find the Domminian Jewel. Cooper has problem wih who wants to be the new king of thieves. there is also a powerful battle at the end that the country's fate is in while battling an old threat AND the troubles of love.
