To be perfectly honest I didn't like this book so much. I was really disappointed in it. Why? The story line I had anticipated would be about The Appeal but instead the story line was about how the charcters used political arena, specifically unseating the incumbent judge in favor of a hand picked candidate who corporate leaders believed would vote in their favor when The Appeal reached the...more
 To be perfectly honest I didn't like this book so much. I was really disappointed in it. Why? The story line I had anticipated would be about The Appeal but instead the story line was about how the charcters used political arena, specifically unseating the incumbent judge in favor of a hand picked candidate who corporate leaders believed would vote in their favor when The Appeal reached the judicial forum. Hopefully the next Grisham I read will be better!?   hide

Intersting ending, esp for a Grisham novel.  I enjoyed it, but then again, I love all John Grisham novels! :)

Though exceptionally well written, with the flow and characters keeping your attention, this book did nothing for me ones I had completed reading it.  There is no plot, as you can see from the very start how the whole book is going to play out, though so the ending might be a surprise.  Not a surprise in a way of an amazing twist, but rather in which direction John Grisham takes.  I have not read...more

There is no plot, as you can see from the very start how the whole book is going to play out, though so the ending might be a surprise.  Not a surprise in a way of an amazing twist, but rather in which direction John Grisham takes.  I have not read many books (if any) by John Grisham), though of course I have seen many of the movies made by his best sellers.  Maybe they are all like this, but I feel that if a unknown writer would have written this, it wouldn't have gotten published.
In the end I felt like I was reading an elaborate news article about the history behind a court ruling, not a fiction.   hide

Started as do all of his books, interesting...  The end is a dud.  Very predictable.  Which is perhaps, sadly the point.

Skip this one.

Not as 'appealing' a story as previous novels. This one was lack-luster with no truly imaginative characters and plot-line. The story's ending was disappointing to say the least.

Grisham has gotten really good at crafting legal scenarios that resonate with current issues in society. I found this book both compelling and frightening. It certainly gave me insights even deeper than I thought I had already. I did find it hard to keep track of all the characters, as well as they were drawn, but I concede that it would have been difficult to construct this particular story with one main protagonist. Or would it? I'd vote for Mary Grace Payton.

The loose strings left dangling with Ron Fisk at the end bothered me. Perhaps his former law partner could have told him that he knew the name of a great lawyer who really believed in people who were dealing with the types of issues facing Fisk at the book's conclusion.
