This man is so clever! I really do enjoy his exploits, although I could see the twists coming.

A story about a smug little rich woman who buy herself a mystery and job but not a man - so falls pregnant and feigns love is really not very interesting...lacks depth and honesty.

Clearly inspired by the style of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple mysteries, the book has a very likable heroine with her constant inner dialogue and is sprinkled with surprising humor and wit. Alexander McCall Smith gives as much importance to the characters and their as he does the resolution of the central mystery of the book. The book starts out a little slow but it really grows on you. Another novels about Isabel Dallhousie, who makes all these wrong assumptions but always set things right at the end. With the arrival of the baby and other dramatic changes in her life, Isabel's attitude seems to have shifted a little bit.
