This is a story based in 18th century New England, the time of the witch hunts and trials and suspicions. It is the story, mainly, of a group of women (one in particular, I suppose), who are businesswomen in a vanishing hamlet called Dogtown. Dogs also figure into the story. Plotline and character development in this one are both pretty thin, surprising considering the quality of The Red Tent. I enjoyed this book, but it isn't remarkable.
