This book took me ages to finish. Which is okay, each chapter can be read separately from each other. In every chapter Klosterman picks another pop culture reference and picks about what it means to our culture right now. It was very interesting to read and some of it I agreed with. It was also entertaining. The more I read the book, however, the more Klosterman seemed like someone who I...more

It's a book about nothing, which makes it both great and sometimes a bit strange. After all, Seinfield was about nothing, but people loved it anyways. Interesting read, he brings up a lot of interesting points, but I prefer his other book Killing Yourself to Live (that's saying a lot since I don't like Rock music).

Awesome. I general, I hate both nonfiction and the pseudo-intelligentsia, but I think Klosterman may be the real thing. He takes everyday cultural phenomena, examines them, and never fails to reach an insightful, accurate conclusion about them. I read it over the summer, and plan to buy a copy just so that I can ask every new person that I meet and intend on becoming intimate friends with his...more

Klosterman is an entertaining and clever penman. I will give him that. The blurbs on the cover are spot on too--- I was ready to strangle this guy during mostly every chapter because he is so irritating but so often I am forced to agree with him. I found myself laughing and cringing at some of his commentary. But aside from the entertainment value of it, his writing is nearly useless to me....more

Chuck Klosterman is an idiot. He writes too many flip-flop articles to seem "deep." He is obsessed with bad 80's tv shows. He doesn't like Coldplay and he blames John Cusack for making him the pathetic single piece of shit that he is. He also seems like a creepy child molester with his articles about Saved By The Bell and coaching little league baseball. He thinks he's...more

Klosterman gives me that great pop-culture junk food fix that I need at three in the morning. I know it will make me fat, but I have to indulge. With that said, if you are seeking out insightful prose with mind bending ideas interwoven, you have picked up the wrong book. Klosterman is entertaining and funny; sometimes he's wrong, but that makes the book more visceral. It's like getting drunk...more

Chuck Klosterman totally reminds me of a countless number of 20-something webgeeks that I've effortlesly encountered since 1996 when my mother subscribed me to aol as a middle school graduation gift. Fearlessly self-absorbed. Overly aware of pointless, yet supurb, mind-numbing media culture. Blissful at the notion that a pair of emo glasses and a SAT fueled vocabulary can get anyone, just...more

Klosterman starts off strong in this book about pop culture. And he ends with oomph. I enjoyed the chapters on the presence of Lloyd Dobler, the Sims, why critiquing journalism is futile, and on the relationship between celebrity and evil. My only criticism is that Klosterman gets caught up with what is "cool". He should work on his strong ability to analyze instead of make pronouncements of...more

Awesome read. I love the 25 questions portion. I've asked many friends some of those questions. Great conversation starter. Klosterman has a way with words and speaks to multiple generations.
