Generation of Swine: Tales of Shame and Degradation in the '80s

Another great book by HST. One of my favorites.

Thompson was great with this. His various journeys and their tellings through his "Gonzo" style make for a very entertaining read. That is, of course, unless you're an uptight swine.

There's a passage about heaven and hell at the beginning of this book that I suggest everyone check out, even if you don't want to read the whole book(which you should), he just writes in a way that astounds me everytime I pick any of his writing up, fuckin brilliant.

Thompson is at war with the GOP, but the pros are clever and well explained. Classic 80's banter mixed with dead on social analysis.

Not the best Thompson's book, which is getting really edgy only near the end. Only for the ardent fans.

It was hit and miss there for a while in the middle but it really came together at the end with the iran/contra and 1988 presidential campaign stuff. "Why has every Republican president since Abraham Lincoln been so crooked that they need a brace of Secret Service men to help them screw their pants on every morning?" Indeed.

Hunter was and where ever he is now a free spirited madman and rebel. I couldn't get enough of him in my younger days. Great writer and adventurer.

Why is every book I read by Thompson the best book I ever read?

the 80's weren't that bad, folks. stop listening to what people want you to think and actually think for a change.
