I enjoy this guys writing style. Clever and seemingly perceptive. About half of the chapters are about specific individuals who hold a celebrity status. I've never been too drawn to that sort of stuff, yet I'm still wanting to read on. Really, if his interviews were with unknowns or celebrities, they would still be entertaining due to the material Klosterman decides to focus on for his...more

Klosterman has some really good material in this, but the other half of the book is nothing more than the stuff in his junk drawer.

Klosterman does it again. Don't let the idea of it being a disjointed bunch of essays keep you from reading this book. I don't have a subscription to either Esquire or SPIN so it was nice getting all of these essays in one place. My 2 favorite essays were on the nemesis/archenemy dichotomy and the piece of Jeff Tweedy of Wilco. His work of fiction at the end is well-written, and strangely...more

Interesting collection. The insights into Kloserman's interviews was at times fascinating. Did not enjoy the fiction as much, but mostly because of the horrible thought of mixing SoCo and Mountain Dew...

Another essential Klosterman collection. This volume is a bit more erratic than his previous books, as it is a collection of essays and interviews he's had published over the last ten years, mainly in either Spin or Esquire magazines. The writing is sharp, funny, and often strangely poignant when you experience the pieces of pop culture he dissects well after reading it. As far as I'm...more

My main complaint about this book is that Chuck Klosterman is a horrible fiction writer. So skip the last section in this book. Other than that, it was a fun read with- as always- a lot of interesting insights. Pop culture writing, by nature, is transient, but Klosterman's footnotes and intros provide perspective and context.

A little hit-and-miss, but full of contemporary cultural insight and assorted randomness. I look forward to reading more of his work...

I like this book. Not as good as his other books, but it is still good. Taking me forever to read it though...

Vintage Klosterman, Gets a little dry towards the end though. I would recommend Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs over IV to anyone who has never read his writings before.
