If you have ever been in contact with someone with an autistic spectrum condition, you will read this book with a sense of "oh yes, I recognise that". Those who mother a child on the spectrum may want a handy supply of tissues. I guessed the denouement but enjoyed it in a "can't put it down" way and it's one of the few by Jodi Picoult that I would probably re-read.

Another tough Picoult read...so intense. I was really impressed with how she just dives into very controversial situations from all angles. I thought to have written from an austic point of view was brave and am interested to see how families that deal with autism will see the authenticity of it. I loved all the angles and really started to feel the life that autistic families endure.

This book was a great learning tool for people who are unaware of what Aspergers is about. It gave you insight into every member of the family of an Apergers patient, including the patient himself. It makes you realize just what goes on in a family who have a child with this syndrome and perhaps will make people more sensitive to "behaviors" that do not appear to be "normal". I recommend...more

Picoult does an exceptional job communicating the complexities of Asperger’s syndrome and the challenges confronting AS families. Eighteen-year old Jacob Hunt has Asperger's syndrome, and his devoted single mother, Emma, has built their family's life around Jacob's needs, sacrificing her career to act as his caregiver and all but often ignoring her younger son, Theo. When Jacob is accused of...more

It is an amazing book, page turner..read it in two days. Took the reader into a family with a son diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. Wow, lot of research had been put behind this one. I like the way the author made every character speak on their behalf as part of the narration. It helps the reader to get into the skin of each of the main characters..I just would have loved one more chapter that...more

The best one yet..the research that this woman does is amazing! Loved the characters especially Jacob, and have a little better understanding of Asberger's having read it. Really intense ( as are most of her books) and I had to let it alone a couple of times. It certainly was worth going back to though! I would like to see a little "change-up" in Picoult's formula...ie. single Mom and lawyer...more

I love Jodi Picoult, but if I didn't love one of her books, I'd tell you. I didn't love the end, so it didn't quite get 5. As usual, had me thinking long after I'd closed the book. What if my child had a disability (Asberger's) and was accused of a crime...technically, he's an adult, and technically he seems "normal," but he's not. I loved, as she often does, the "voices" of the characters...more

This book had sparks of brilliance, but a lot of it was mundane. The story line had immense potential, but it was not as interesting as some of her older books. The way the therapist died was fairly obvious, IMO. I would have thought that "Always tell the truth" would trump "Take care of your brother" in Jacob's mind --- in that, I was pleasantly surprised. A good read, but not as good as...more
