This is a political play and quite interesting too. Critics wrongly consider this to be a tragedy. Shakespeare boasts of his writing skills here as the known playwright sublimes each of the characters minutely so that we can ourselves locate people like the main characters round us. Excellent conveyance of human emotions and Portia and Calphurnia (although portrayed to be quite simple)...more

Shakespeare at his very best... after reading this drama, I found this to be his zenith. The political backdrop, the conspiracies, Caesar's atrocities, Brutus' conflicts, Cassisus' manipulative nature, Antony's loyalty and his clever handling of the situations, the Roman mob- these form the essence of the play. Add to that some of the greatest dialogues ever written and you...more

Read this in 10th grade. Have never seen it performed. Probably should check the Stratford schedule and plan a trip to Canada. Another book that all people of well rounded education should read because there are so many social references "The Ides of March" for example.

Actually memorized, "Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ear! I come not to bury Caesar but to praise him!" Learned that in 6th grade! Saw Denzel Washington in Julius Caesar in NYC! I had those seats in the back. It was a cheap ticket even if I had to stand up during the entire show!
