more A classic horror novel, you might call it. And I couldn't agree with you more. However, before I begin my review, I would just like to add that I am not a fan of horror novels, and therefore do not know much about them. This review is solely based on what I feel about S. K.'s epic novel. The concept of an evil hotel doesn't sound so scary - in fact, it sounds almost ridiculous and laughable. So how did a haunted, evil hotel scare the bejesus out of me?Let's just say it had to do with Mr. King's amazing writing skills. He knew humans do not fear what they can't see, so he didn't waste a lot of pages writing about lurking ghosts and ghouls, because readers can't see them, and so they can't linger too long in the readers' minds. Instead, he dedicated his story on frightening the reader's subconscious (and believe me, I still haven't had THAT figured out) and made the story so much so that it FEEDS on the readers' suspense. The greater the suspense a reader has, the more scarier it gets. The ending, however, wasn't very satisfactory. I just felt there was something missing, though I can't quite grasp what. And the chase between the lunatic version of Jack Torrance and his victims wasn't as impressive as I thought it'd be.A good read. One word of advice though: I'd recommend not reading it at night - or in the bathroom, for that matter.
