Possible the funniest, most scathing book ever written. Rich and poor, high and low are all skewered. Yet, the book has a tremendous humanity, commenting of the futility of all of our vain efforts. Thackery also has an amazing sympathy for his characters (like Tolstoy) even has he lambastes them.

Definitely not the greatest novel of all time. I didn't like any of the characters and got sick of reading about them. Managed to read to the end though but there were too many diversions in the story, not enough plot.
