Lyrical and evocative. Poignant description of a passing culture and generation.

A beautiful, sweeping look into the dark end of the Apache Indian way of life. With incredibly believable characters, I couldn't put this historical gem down until the very last page. This is one of those rare empathetic stories that will leave it's reader shaken to the core & looking back into America's past with a new found respect for it's Native American beginnings!

A heartbreaking story of just one girl growing up Apache at the worst time possible. A nice break from the "cowboy" point of view you seem to get from every other western novel and movie. One caveat: definitely for older readers. Subjects like hunting, death, and assault make this a tough read for the very sensitive.

Brave journey of one young woman to her life story of becoming a warrior. Landman did a great job of researching the tribes, describing the views, and engaging the reader in the primary character's story. Would love to read any sequels.
