If you don't have time to read many books - make this one a priority! Wonderful, imaginative and powerful narrative.

This was an excellent and refreshing read, leaving me wanting more verrrrry much (and cursing my tendency to pick series that are not completed yet). From the ever lovable and pathetic refrain of the dog, "Ow, Todd?" to the fantastic landscape of an alien planet and the all too familiar one of human twistedness and then the backdrop of basic survival and growing up meshed with...more

One of the best YA novels I've read. A real page-turner with believable and nuanced characters, and a hell of a cliffhanger ending (first in a trilogy!). It's also surprisingly dark, so I wouldn't recommend this to younger readers.

There is much enthusiasm about this book and it's easy to understand why. I'll save the description, since it's in many of the other reviews. The themes explored here are interesting and provocative. A chase thriller throughout and the first book in a series. Much like life, resolutions do not come easy in this read, but I appreciate an author who challenges the reader.

It's a rare book that keeps me so engaged that I don't flip to the end to see what happens.

Reviewed by Candace Cunard for TeensReadToo.com On a far-flung world newly settled by humanity, twelve-year-old Todd Hewitt of Prentisstown is a boy on the brink of becoming a man. When settlers came to this world, they found it already inhabited by aliens known as the Spackle, and a war was waged against them to colonize the planet. Now, almost twenty years after the first settlers...more
