If you hate and love your mom at the same time, you'll love Hamlet! Ghosts and greedy uncles- you can't go wrong with a man who needs some psychological help!

Devout Shakespeare fanatic though I am... I've never liked Hamlet. It's certainly a work of considerable genius, and has contributed more phrases to the common lexicon than most people realise, I just... don't find it all that entertaining. I think it's much better to read and study than it is to see on a stage... which of course isn't really the point of a play.

And then...wait for it....he stages a play about the death in order to watch his uncle's reaction to it. Sneaky, or stupid? I know which I think it is!

But Shakespeare didn't write his works to be held in hand and read mentally. He was a writer of scripts, and they have to be taken in accordingly, acted out. When done so, it is possible to appreciate the wonder of his works, how easily the story can be...more
