The Sword of Truth

loved it!

I love this series of books! I love the characters and all their struggles. Cara is one of my favorite characters. I was cornered into reading them by a co-worker and now I am very glad that I did. This is the first sci-fi/fantasy book that I read. Now I am hooked! I have yet to read another series that I enjoyed more than this.

A bit long-winded on the descriptions, but still a great book.

Great fantasy with a sweet love story. First book is simliar to Lord of the Rings: The Tower.

This series is the best series I have read. From start to finish a great read. Terry Goodkind did a great job on this series.

I have a pretty serious love/hate relationship with the Sword of Truth series. On one hand the books are really very well written. The characters have serious depth and a sense of humanity that's all too often absent in fantasy literature. The plots are interesting and not too repetitive, and the villans are pretty genuinely horrible. On the other hand those villains are often horrible to the extreme that they come off as caricatures rather than characters. More than anything else my issue with the series is that the philosophy/politics so seriously engrained in it really disgusts/revolts me. It's less obvious in the early novels but the objectivist philosophy of the author is hard to ignore later in the series.   hide

Terry Goodkind is amazing. He draws you into his world. Just when you think everything is about to crash down & the world is about to end, the books take a twist. Especially in Chainfire. Several times I thought I knew what was coming but something else happened instead. Riveting! Amazing detail & imagination!

The next set of books in the Sword of Truth series are a reflection of government philosophies and comments on the social injustices, the division of class among citizens and the nature of war. A note of warning, these books are not intended for those escaping reality, but rather it is for those who strive for the complete opposite. Sword of Truth confronts the reader with a brutal and ugly side of human nature and contrasts that with beauty and the sincerity of humans. Think i read the first 5 books or so. Very good, but started to go downhill.
