This book didn't change my outlook on life the way it did for Ferris, but it's certainly one of the best original works of fiction of the last years, and certainly one of those books where the last ten pages make the first 800 pages entirely worth the investment. I hope there's a second one coming!
Loved it - the makings of an epic. Clarke has carefully woven an entire world in one novel. The book is full of footnotes that create an entire history of magic in England. This book is a delight to read. I can't wait to find time to read this one again (and again). Fantastic, completely recommended!
This novel spans over twelve years, but loses none of the delicious details in the process. The magic is truly wonderful, the characters utterly human, and the ending so bittersweet that you really won't forget this book.
