I'm not much of a history buff. If this is something you like then you will love this book. Bill Bryson is traveling again. This time he is in the land of the down under. Bryson in great detail describes his adventure and the history behind all that has made up the town. I personally got overwhelmed by the amount of history he dug up. I was reading the book for the travel adventure like he described in "A walk in the woods". I was disappointed in this book and had to put it down for a few months and will eventually come back and finish it.   hide

My first real exposure to Australia outside of popular culture, and a great primer to all the things that can kill you just by stepping outside Down Under. Oh, and all the absolutely stunning scenery. Bill Bryson makes what amounts to a series of very long road (and rail) trips fun, but that really goes without saying. Fantastic book.
