"A Girl Named Zippy" has to be one of my all time favorites. The first time I read it, I laughed out loud often, sometimes because I related so strongly to Zippy's feelings of her childhood, and sometimes because I couldn't. Haven Kimmel has a brilliant knack of being able turn a sentence on a dime, leaving you surprised where it ends up.The second time I read it, I was able to see just how thoughtful and observant Kimmel is as a writer. Her subtle descriptions of events skillfully walk the line between describing them as a child would have seen them, and with the more knowing eye of an adult.   hide

I think my husband is glad I'm done reading this . . . I kept interrupting him to read it to him! There are times where I laughed so hard, I spit on myself. Definitely worth the read.

Hilarious!

One of the funniest books I have ever read. Zippy is quite a character, which enables to her deal with the sad state of her homelife.

A nice little book about growing up in a small town in the Midwest.
