I didn't want this book, but I bought it on sale in a group for a low price, I was just going along with the offer. I expect this to be complete fluff, and I think complete fluff was the author's original intention. But writing about your personal experiences can pull things into perspective for all of us, and I think that's what happened to Mr. Derfner. Joel is terribly funny and...more

I'm currently reading this before it even hits the shelves, and what I'll tell you is that it's a little choppy. Joel Derfner is all over the place when he's talking about his life, but since I'm still reading it, I feel like it still has some potential, so let's see.

This book of essays was hilarious and thought-provoking. I like to take a bag of new fiction and non-fiction with me on chemotherapy days and churn through as many as I can read in seven hours. "Swish" didn't disappoint.

This is the first new book that I have completely enjoyed without reservations in a really long time. Joel Derfner is not only witty and gay but he is wise and compassionate and intelligent and gay. And quite cute, but that's beside the point. And you don't have to be gay at all to enjoy this book - I really mean it. Love it love it love! So, Joel, if you are on Facebook, please be kind to me,...more

Not as silly as it I thought it would be. Actually, very "just human" and in a very honest way.

One of the funniest and most REAL books I've ever read. It reminded me so much of me. The author knows when to be witty and when to make a point. Lucky for the reader, he does both many times.
