What a GREAT book! I read this for a english class while I was in italy and could not put it down. At its heart its a classic tale of good and evil, but you dig deeper and realize the ambigious nature of those terms.... a great book. Classic good vs. Evil.. or not.

ooh not my cup of tea, amazingly written as I believe all Graham Greene books are, but so dark. Was interested in Rose as a subject. Wanted more from the record.

Grim story of a teenage psycho in 50's Britain. A very good book, nowadays the main character would be one of those cocky chav's you cross the street to avoid when walking back from the pub at night.

Having watched the film before reading the book, I had pretty high expectations for Brighton Rock. In true Greene style, it did not disappoint. Pinkie is an excellent villain and the extent to which he will push the boundries in order to preserve his own hide is fascinating. Rose was suitably annoying and the deviation from the film at the end was delicious!

I just heard a 1979 interview with Graham Greene in which he mentioned that he does not much care for the film adaptation, since the movie never mentions that Pinkie is a Catholic. The startled interviewer said, "Er, isn't that kind of a big part of the book?" To which Greene responded, "Yes, I would have thought so."
