Having read and enjoyed Clive Barker and Steven King I think I’m sufficiently jaded to find almost any book readable. What I found objectionable in Hart’s Hope was more in the tone of the narrative rather than in the subject matter. It’s harsh (in viewpoint; not language), lacks empathy and as a result borders on a type of porn rather than good fiction. However, judging by the (7 as I write this) other reviews, maybe this is just not my genre.
