Out of the 15 or so Tom Stoppard plays I have read so far, this play is my favorite! This funny, thought provoking play incorporates many references to Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest”, and a cast of characters that includes Lenin, Tristan Tzara and James Joyce. This is a great play – I would love to see it performed!!

Yes, you practically have to be a dramaturg to understand all the references—but let's face it, this play is FUNNY. I saw it live in S.F. and I have to say, I've never seen a more amusing sight than Tristan Tzara running around pelting James Joyce with muffins. Stoppard's finest!

i can't imagine how this could be a compelling play to watch. it's Stoppard going overboard a bit. i love the Joyce stuff though.
