A difficult read: enigmatic and sometimes inhuman but hilarious at the same time. I find myself often frustrated when reading it, but unable to ever throw it away. Make whatever sense of it that you can. Approach it from whatever angle seems best to you. Scholars debate this book and all of Beckett's oeuvre to this day, and no one has quite nailed him down yet. This book(s) will illicit a very palpable response from you; whether it will be of visceral disgust, the most profound sadness, or every type of laugh within the gamut of human experience will depend on you. Beckett mon amour! This trilogy is for the ones who are willing, wishing and trying to get rid of the borders of language. That is, language as a formal tool to communicate. Language is a space, to free float. Language is a space, as de/reconstructing itself does the same to you. You gotta let it! You gotta lose the strings of power. But not like losing them as another sort of power. On the contrary, giving yourself the credit to be weak and even better letting it out. Beckett is always tough with a dazzling sense of humour. If you consider yourself a writer, or just a person who has tried to communicate your deep recesses to any other human, then you must use "their language." And having tired doing so, you'll certainly (at least as close one can) empathize... "In my life, since we must call it so, there were three things, the inability to be silent, the inability to speak, and solitude, that's what I had to make the best of."    hide

I am not sure how words can be so bleak, yet so hopeful as well.

Beckett is quite simply a master of the word.
