This is an important book, but I can't help but wonder what exactly is meant by "meaning" of life. Life can be fulfilling, but is that the same as "meaningful"? I'm not sure. Frankl lists 3 things that make life meaningful: work, love, and one's attitude toward suffering (that is, being strong, stoic, heroic, dignified, etc). Frankly, I'm just not convinced by this last one. It's a...more

First part about Frankl’s experience in concentration camps in WWII and then about Logotherapy, which is opposed to Freudian psychology. It’s a therapy which helps the patient find meaning in their lives and not like Freud who tries to uncover neuroses. This is God-based and reasonable and brilliant!

Having read other Holocaust accounts, as well as having visited camps, I feel Frankl's is one that is relevant to the human experience today. Suffering or happiness is a choice, moment by moment, and ultimately, it doesn't matter if you are in a death camp or in Times Square. You can be aware of your conditioned reactions and instead be active in creating your own experience.

An absolutely heart wrenching account of life in a Nazi concentration camp. A psychoanalyst before World War Two, Frankl had a unique perspective on the suffering inflicted on those in these Nazi death camps. A must read not just for anyone interested in history, but a must read for anyone in general.
