First of all the woman wasn't a midwife when she wrote this so the title is inaccurate. The stories in the book cover the time after she gave up being a midwife and became a nurse practioner and gyn examiner. I don't know why she didn't say that in the title, because she says it like in every chapter in the book. also there is way too much time spent on her day to day life, money...more

I am 3/4 through this book & I really like it. I know at least 2 former hippie women who are mid level practioners & I have recommended this book to them. Patsy is a loving woman & I like her prayers & hugs. Everyone needs a Patsy in their life to listen to them & help them.

Interesting book. It gets you inside the lives and thoughts of different people. What I found odd and couldn't relate to was the fact that so many of these women are in terrible situations because of their own choices! There's more out there in this big world, people!

I don't think it is the memoir of a midwife as she only talks about delivering 2 babies and 1 of them was BEFORE she was a midwife. She talks of being a "hippie" and living in a commune, but then lives in a gated community on a lake full time and has a vacation home on an island in Canada. Big social jump! It seems like they (she and her husband) take little responsibility...more
