I enjoyed this book. It was a pretty quick read. Translated from French the style of writing was a nice escape from the modern non fiction that has dominated my reading list lately. I read it while traveling so I had plenty of time to think about the central ideas of the book separate from the melodramatic writing. Having read "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress" we had to read Balzac himself. Fascinating. Rough writing for his time. I see his style often now.
