this book is sensational. i could not put it down!!

This heart-rending account of a Dutch familys'plight during WW2..living on Java when the Japanese invaded and tells of the horror of a 'Tenko' style concentration camp with three young children.. showing photographs of the family, the few after liberation shows clearly all the sufferings and depredations on the faces of the children, which moved me greatly.

reading this book was one of the most harrowing and uplifting experiences ever! Here is an example of a mother's unconditional love and the strength from within all that love for her children. A beautifully written memoir!!

not my usual kind of story, but couldnt put this book down once i had started to read it!
