Another Dumas book that I read the last of a series without realizing it. Liked it nonetheless.

The book got off to a good start, and kind of fizzled toward the end for me. BTW, I hated Simon!

Best Dumas I've read yet! Actually, I don't know if it's better than The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte-Cristo, but damn! Such an enjoyable read! Adventure, romance, interesting convoluted plot, old-fashioned chivalry, sacrificing of one's life for another's...ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS EVER!!!!! I LOOOOOOVE DUMAS!!!! Toshi, I hated Simon too. Biggest asshole you...more

I loved this book. Not only do you get a crash course in French history, but no woman can help but fall in love with the dashing Maurice Lindley. He is what all women want, and what all men should aspire to be. But beware--the ending is so sad!! :-(

While this book is entertaining, it simply does not compare to the Three Musketeers. Nevertheless, it is a good read.

The historical content of the book worked very nicely. The book is a romance, and while I expected it, the romantic elements were not as I expected. The main character often came across as desperate. However, the cavalier elements to the story made up for this many times over. The ending, while unexpected, was well written and powerful.

Wasn't crazy about the ending, but I guess it had to happen that way!! After all, it is set in the time of the French Revolution.

The attempts to save her life keep you at the edge of your seat, and the intrigue keeps you guessing to the last as to the fate of the three main characters. This is...more
