great character study

I love Dunant taking me into an ancient nunnery and fascinating me with every detail. Dunant is a marvel with character and setting.

beginning was great and so was the ending..the middle ..ugh..wade thru it

The prose to the story is more difficult to read, but the story line is perfectly woven to accomodate the religious issues surrounding this time in history.

I'm on page 160 but it isn't holding my interest. But it is our bookclub book so I will keep at it.

Loved this book about life in a convent during the Renaissance. The details are so vivid and the story was compelling--especially during the last half of the book.

Basically, it is the story of a girl incarcerated in a nunnery despite her protests, and her efforts to be reunited with the man who loves her. The plot is that simple, yet the touches, the nuances, the details, are amazing. It is almost as if Dunant herself lived in a nunnery and took notes on every aspect of life; the details are that thorough. She is a talented writer and I haven't read a Dunant book that I haven't liked yet.   hide

I wrote a long review of this book, saying that I loved it for this, that and the other reason - and then the whole review disappeared. Not up to writing it all again. Read the book yourself and be mesmerized like I was. An amazing book, gripping.
