more This book had a slow start, but the payoff is well worth it. I've read David Liss before, all of which are historical adventure fictions, normally involving some sort of economic conspiracy in Europe in the 19th century. This book switches to America just after the Revolution, before the Whiskey Rebellion Its main characters are fictional but it takes place within a background of real events and people. The main plot involves a conspiracy to undermine Hamilton's new Bank of America. But it has two main plotlines each moving closer together until a spellbinding denouement that blurs the lines between good and evil. The heroes are villains, and the villains heroes. Or something like that....It's hard to explain really.
