This book, surprisingly, is much more about the trees themselves. It brings you into the lives of the characters and makes the adventure very real.

not usually the type of book that I like; but found this completely engrossing.

I love trees so I enjoyed this book. The redwoods are amazing and there are a great deal of interesting facts in this book. It did have some drawbacks though. I felt it lacked in character development and story line. It jumped around a lot but never really developed good information on the characters. This was a really interesting read - while the writing wasn't particularly sophisticated, the people (and trees) the author writes about portray an amazing history of modern canopy exploration (particularly in the Pacific Northwest and Australia). There is a fair amount of biology and ecology presented that most people can easily understand, and its presentation is illustrative of the human spirit of exploration and passion for adventure. Great story that'll make you want to scale a 300' tree!

Inspired a detour to hike amongst the redwoods on a recent vacation to California!

Interesting non-fiction about some folks who love the Redwoods and dedicate themselves to climbing and learning about these fantastic trees. Reads like a novel. I've taken a guided hike to learn about them, and this was a good second lesson about our California's treasure.

A great read. The adventures of these tree-crazy biologists will amaze you--these people are nuts!--and you'll learn things about trees and our natural world that you've likely never imagined.

I liked this book about the search for the tallest Giant Sequoia in Humbolt county California. It was a change of pace from Preston's other Non-Fiction novels.
