This was my first capote book, and I couldn't for the life of me understand why he threw it, talk about self-criticism alright! "summer crossing" had in fact encouraged me to read more Capote! A small gem, showing Capote's writing style and razor-sharp wit still developing. An almost poignant, wistful look at the life of the young New York socialite Grady McNeil, Clyde Manzer's "butterfly in a candy bag" . You know from the start that her summer is fated to end badly. You're just reading to find out how bably.

feels a little bit incomplete, as it is because Truman never intended to publish this book. it was found among his notes.

technically i didn't finish this one. life's too short to read a book you're not into (as my mother says). i think if i was 17 again i'd love it but, now at 28, grady seems so ridiculous.
