Did not enjoy this book, however, the author did a good job of writing a preview of the classic Huckleberry Finn and giving us background on his father.

Dark, but well written. Jon Clinch stopped by Urban Think for a signing in 2006. He's an add man from Philadelphia and Finn is his first novel. A pretty impressive start, Finn is the untold story of Huckleberry Finn's father, who it turns out is not a very nice guy. Huckleberry Finn readers may remember that Mark Twain only tells us a few things about Mr. Finn. He locked poor...more

This is a very well written book and very hard to read and very hard to put down. Hardness of life, the hardness of hearts, the strange ways of tenderness, the plight of women, the plight of Black people, the parentage of Huckleberry Finn, especially his Pap are the players on the stage of this book wit a hook.

Or at least tried to read. Some sort of twisted Hannibal Lectre twist on an American classic. Read at your own peril.

It was harsh and creepy.... chilling....parts of it literally turned my stomach, but it was an interesting interpretation of Huckleberry Finn's father...

Dark, very dark. But incredible prose. Not the typical meta-fiction effort--insight into Pap's possible world bleak but illuminating.

Dark. Like Robert Conrad's river, a psychological journey into the shadow
