I loved the way the author told us the end stories of all the secondary characters. You ached with Lillian took every step with her.

I think the message of this novel is if you think your life sucks, get a load of these people because their troubles are worse than your own. The heroine survives a pogrom in the 1920s, loses her parents, husband and daughter, ekes out a living in NYC, learns that her 3-year old daughter was saved by another family after all and now lives in Siberia, and so travels across North America, to Alaska...more

A story of a determined woman and her travels and travails in the search for her daughter. You will not be able to put it down, a real page turner. So good, I read it aloud to my husband.

An interesting story...but quite depressing. And I was disappointed by the ending, just a little.

It grabbed me at first but I am in stuggle-street with it now. I will persevere until the end though. Wouldn't recommend it.

I must stop listening to reviews! This is another of those which has great reviews. The reality, for me, is dull, dull, dull! The idea is sound, interesting and has potential but for a short book to get stuck into some tedious irrelevant ruts along the way shows, to me, someone who is merely spinning out a yarn for a requisite number of pages. Very disappointing!

Whoa, woe and wow! Excellent writing and story telling. Fantastic characters the likes of which I've only encountered in current Native American Literature. (Think Louise Edrich and Sherman Alexie.) Lillian Lyeb may be in the running for my favorite female heroine of all time. Whoa, woe and wow!

This book is a real disappointment. If you enjoy perverted sexual experiences that relate to nothing else in the story - you might enjoy this read . . . "might" being the operative word.
